We are given a glimpse into what this literally-[spiritually] means as follows.......
ONE:/ We are given a glimpse into what literally-[spiritually]
happened there that day given the details regarding two fundamental areas of our
Salvation ~ propitiation and abnegation of the law.
A./ propitiation
NOTES re: crucified with Christ
literally/figuratively ?
1./
1./
Colossians 2:11; [our body [is] crucified with him]
literally/figuratively ?
a./ Just as in, Romans 6:6; our old man [is] crucified with him
b./ This is the very same subject as, did Jesus -or- did He
not literally take our sins [upon] and [within] Himself upon the cross ? ANS. =
yes He did.
1 Peter 2:24; Who his
own self [bare] our sins [in] his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to
sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
God conferred upon Jesus [2
Cor. 5:21;who knew no sin... 1 John
3:5; ...and in him is no sin.] the
sin and/ sins of us all !
made him to be sin for us
[in] his own body
literally/figuratively ?
three (3) things...
a./ 1 Peter 2:24;
[bare] our sins [in] his own body
b./ 2 Cor. 5:21;
made him to be sin for us
c./ Matthew 27:50; Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud
voice, yielded up the ghost.
It's not hard to understand how that His crying out [loudly]
was because of having such utter weight of sin and iniquity put [upon] and
[within] Himself who knew no sin !
Now, if we believe that He did take our sins [both the
nature=iniquity + it's nature in us [sin] + our own individual expressions of
sin=[sins] then it is concomitant to acknowledge that our old man i.e. old sin
nature side of ourselves was EXCISED and placed [upon] and [within] Jesus upon
the cross likewise. Because, saying [he bore our sins upon the cross] is the
same thing as saying [Romans 6:6; our
old man [is] crucified with him] because the two things are parallel and
synonymously the same thing.
God literally laid His hand upon both Jesus and ourselves
and EXCISED] conferred our sin from ourselves unto Jesus ~ Just as Aaron
did in Leviticus 16:21. i.e. Colossians 2:11-12;
Only, as regards Romans 6:6; [our old man [is] crucified
with him]
we also have ~
Colossians 2:11-12; In him also you were circumcised with a
circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the
circumcision of Christ, having been buried with him in baptism, in which you
were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who
raised him from the dead.
So that what actually literally happened [in the spiritual
realities and senses] and what really happened to us in the real world physical
realities and senses is that Romans 6:6; [our old man [is] crucified with him]
and literally [died in and with Christ] was buried, justified, quickened,
regenerated, translated and raised unto newness of life ! And, in that burial
[baptism] Colossians 2:11; "you were circumcised with a circumcision made
without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of
Christ, having been buried with him in baptism,":and, in that
resurrection, Colossians 2:11; "in which you were also raised with him
through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the
dead." "quickened by the Spirit" "translated" and
"regenerated" by the operation of God who in this act of Jesus Christ
justified life and raised us all back up again renewed unto newness of life !
The like figure of which is to us "water baptism";
and, thus the act of our enacting and/or by our partaking of these figures
causes and/or generates real effects [regeneration and translation and renewal,
sanctification of the spirit, conversion and is that experience of our
Salvation we call ~ Salvation ! Which, begets our Salvation [1 Peter 2:24; ]
just as [Romans 10:8-10; does] for baptism is an open expression done before
mankind and/or witnesses in which act the individual is confessing their faith
in and their belief and acceptance of Jesus Christ as their own personal Lord
and Saviour.
Very simply put, yes, all human life [beings, past, present and future] literally was crucified and
died in and with Jesus Christ at Calvary upon
His cross there that fateful day ! You were buried with Jesus and renewed;
then, raised back up unto newness of life via the justification of life
conferred upon us all by the operation of God [and, His power] by and in this
selfless act of sacrifice Jesus offered freely and consentually before and unto
God for us: via and through which God accomplished all these many divine
realities !
And, not only so, moreover [Colossians 2:11; "you were
circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of
the flesh] i.e. as Paul hath taught, stated and said ~ Galatians 2:20; I am crucified with Christ:
nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I
now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and
gave himself for me.
Such that, when Paul says ~ Galatians 2:20; I am crucified
with Christ: literally what he is saying is that [just as our old sin nature
was EXCISED from us, by God the Father Himself, so also [our body] i.e.
[Colossians 2:11; "you were circumcised with a circumcision made without
hands, by putting off the body of the flesh] such that what this phrase [by putting
off the body of the flesh] actually states is that, this [circumcised with a
circumcision made without hands,] is this [putting off the body of the flesh]
because, it is [by] this i.e. [by putting off the body of the flesh] that you
[Colossians 2:11; "you were circumcised with a circumcision made without
hands,...].
Therefore, just as our old sin nature was EXCISED from us,
by God the Father Himself, and was crucified with Jesus Christ, so also was our
very body of flesh !
So that what actually literally happened [in the spiritual
realities and senses] and what really happened to us in the real world physical
realities and senses is that Colossians 2:11; [our body [is] crucified with
him] and literally [died in and with Christ] was buried, justified, quickened,
regenerated, translated and raised unto newness of life !
Just as our old man and/or our old sin nature was ! Which is what Paul actually
means in ~ Galatians 2:20; I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet
not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I
live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Hence and thus......we have.....
a./ Thus, the phrase [by putting off the body of the flesh,], such that [if] it [the body of the flesh] was [put off] by [this circumcision, the operation of God] what is this except that [it] died, was crucified, buried, striped away, quickened, regenerated, translated, raised renewed unto newness of life as that one new man ?
thus, re:
b./ the body of this flesh [in which sin resides] NOTE: had it not been so, the sin which resides within this body of the flesh would not have been abnegated and purged.
3./ A third fact/factor/precept that stands
strong in saying that we very literally were crucified with Jesus Christ; and,
that we very literally died there that day comes from ~ Galatians 6:14; But
God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by
whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
a./
All of which refers to, has to do with and speaks regarding the
supernatural things which literally happened and/or occurred at the cross of
Calvary there that fateful day as depicted, preserved for us and stated in Matthew 27:50-54;
50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
Of which things there is not doubt.
such that,
b./ Very literally the world was crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
SECONDLY:/ Notwithstanding,
however, it is the "quickening" which proves the far reaching
transcendency of what really, actually, literally, and spiritually happened
and/or occurred there that day. i.e.
ONE:/ The
"quickening was not confined to Jesus Himself only ! It reached out into
the very graves of the saints long gone, dead and decomposed in their very
graves and literally brought them back to life ~ i.e.
52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints
which slept arose,
53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and
went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
In which is proved......that,
A./ When God
"quickened" Jesus Christ, the "quickening" was conferred
simultaneously to the saints who died with and in Him; such that, their very
bodies were regenerated, translated, raised renewed unto newness of life and resurrected
thereby ! Came up out of their graves and appeared unto many as witnesses to
the mighty transcending power and far reaching supernatural realities of what
really happened there that fateful day.
TWO:/ The whole
entire world was judged there that day ! And, far reaching supernatural
realities swept through the whole of it all [instantaneously] ! To which the
sum of all elements natural to mankind conspired and wrought supernatural
events that would thus testify and bear witness; and, give glorious proofs to
the operation and powers of our Almighty Godhead ! And,
2 Corinthians 5:16; Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.
and,
B./ It is in the sum of these many and mighty things that [the sins of the whole world] were taken away and wiped cleaned [wash in the blood of the lamb of God] ! Such that, the result is....
and, is not........
A./ In this sense the world was judged [in Christ] put to death,
buried with Jesus, justified, quickened unto new life, raised together with
Him = regenerated, and became new. = Galatians 2:20; I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I
live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the
flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for
me.
Galatians 6:14; But God forbid
that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the
world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. and,
2 Corinthians 5:16; Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.
and,
B./ It is in the sum of these many and mighty things that [the sins of the whole world] were taken away and wiped cleaned [wash in the blood of the lamb of God] ! Such that, the result is....
B./ We come to the foot of the cross, to Jesus like this.......
C./ We leave there like this......
D./ The ultimate realities are thus dealt with, accomplished, done for us and have been finished already:
Ephesians 2:8; For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
and,
1./ Hebrews 9:28; ....unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
Mark 16:16; He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Acts 2:21; And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Romans 3:22; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
Romans 10:12; For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
NOTE: re: Colossians 2:10-12; the baptism of Christ
Matthew 20:21-23;
21 And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom.
22 But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.
23 And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with:....
and,
in, [Colossians 2:10-12;] [Matthew 20:21-23; was proven.]
10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
thus, Matthew 20:21-23; was proven in Colossians 2:10-12;
1 Peter 3:21; The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
THIRDLY: 1 John 3:5; And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins;...
and, that's exactly what He accomplished and did !
FOUR:/ Even futher-more-over...........
Galatians 3:16; Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
Romans 8:10; And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
Romans 5:18; Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
Colossians 3:11; " Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all. "
ONE:/ We are merely and only alive becauseof the "Christ-seed"
[Colossians 3:11;] "in us" ! Galatians 3:16;
TWO:/ Further, it is within this spiritual universe [seed] in this commonality "all share" where these realities manifest and reside.
Luke 17:21; Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
A./ Just as the 1st Adam bore the "seed [residue] of "the spirit" of all and every human being ever to spring from Him, so also the second Adam [Jesus Christ] bears His seed [as do we all ! for we are everyone created in the image and likeness of the Godhead !] Gen. 1:26-28; + John 1:4,9, 16;
Genesis 1:26-28;
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
John 1:
1-3
........
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
........
9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
........
16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
B./ As it is written.........."ye are gods" Psalm 82:6;...and all of you are children of the most High.
Psalm 82:5-7;
5 They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.
6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
7 But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.
John 10:33-35;
33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.
34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
John 8:24; I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
