5./ The Delimma

ONE:/   We know we have the verbage of solutions ~

but, what about "realities" !

John 13:10; Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all. [Only, what does that mean ? !] Answer ~

Colossians 3:1; If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

Colossians 3:2; Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
e.g.
Luke 18:18-24;
18 And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
19 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.
20 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.
21 And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.
22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
23 And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
24 And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!

James 3:4-18;
4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.
5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:
8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.
10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?
12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.
13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.
14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.
15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

James 3:2; For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

Galatians 5:9; A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.

1 Cor.5:7; Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

John 3:12; If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?

Proverbs 16:6; By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.

John 17:17; Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

Matthew 4:4; But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

THESE ARE REALITIES ! affections, desire, you have to want to be, become, find, do these things and have them in your life ! blessing and cursing, envying and strife ! these are all "real things" known and understood among us all ! As leaven is to bread, are such temperaments to the body ! These things are not hard to understand  nor to comprehend !  mercy and truth ! supplant cursing, envying and strife (as does peace) and by these "good things" iniquity is purged ! However, do you do them ? do you want to ? do you "give thyself wholly to them" ?

1 Timothy 4:15; "Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all." The "real" question thus becomes ~ do you even really believe ? Or, as the rich ruler bantering Christ, are you merely seeking an "easy way out" ? -Or- as those who followed Jesus for the wrong reasons ( and turn away back when they found not what they were after ~ Jn.6:26, and 64-66;) are you believing in vain ? 1 Corinthians 15:1-2;

As it is written ~
Matthew 9:13; But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Matthew 12:7; But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.

Matthew 3:7-9;
7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

but, "do you really believe it" ? !

Mark 9:24; And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

Luke 18:10-14;
10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Which of these are you ?
~
TWO:/  the Simple Truth ~

John 3:34; For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.

John 8:47; He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

John 15:20; Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

1 John 4:6; We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

1 Timothy 4:16; Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

Matthew 13:16; But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.

Romans 11:7; What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded.

Matthew 11:19; The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

And, just because you love them that love you; and, are and/or find that you are of the same feather (I am purple, you are purple, we all are purple ~ Barney mentality) doesn't constitute a basic nature.

Deuteronomy 31:6; Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

Isaiah 42:3; A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.

Matthew 12:20; A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.

John 6:37; All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

Philippians 1:6; Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

1 Thessalonians 5:24; Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

Hebrews 13:5; Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

2 Samuel 22:48; It is God that avengeth me, and that bringeth down the people under me.

Psalm 18:32; It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.

Psalm 18:47; It is God that avengeth me, and subdueth the people under me.

Romans 8:33; Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

Philippians 2:13; For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
Isaiah 43:13; Yea, before the day was I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let it?
Habakkuk 1:5; Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvelously: for I will work a work in your days which ye will not believe, though it be told you.
Revelation 22:17; And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

THREE:/   1 Peter 3:21; The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
A./   Why then even try (if it's "not the putting away of the filth of the flesh") ?

    1st./   Works cannot save you; neither can works un-save you: however, works do prove and/or disprove you !
NOTE: now, understanding here 1st that [[making mistakes, falling down, recidivism, backsliding, sinning, these things happen: and, the sufferer will suffer the consequences (or worse - 1 Corinthians 5:5; ) ~ yet, "shall be saved;"1 Corinthians 3:15;] however, these differ from [blatant lifestyle being given over to sin and ungodliness yet insisting yourself to be a believer and Christlike] i.e. their is a great difference between "being a liar" and, "failures and suffering for it; getting back up, dusting yourself off again, and trying harder this time ! continuing on in a better way each time (as best you can ! God knows !)]]
These are simple things we all understand and tell our children every day (in school and church) ~ [if] I ran around telling all that I was a grand piano player; and, [if] I could not play the piano [then] the truth would be [I am a liar] and [I cannot be what I say I am] ! not difficult to understand nor comprehend ! Likewise,

[if] I ran around telling all that I am a Christian; and, [if] I do not live like it [then] the truth would be [I am a liar] and [I cannot be what I say I am] ! Works are the proof ! As it is written.........
Romans 12:2; And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

2 Corinthians 13:5; Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

Galatians 6:4; But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.

Ephesians 5:10; Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

1 Thessalonians 5:21; Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

2 Timothy 4:5; But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

1 Timothy 4:15; Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.

Philippians 1:9-11;
9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;
10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ.
11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

1 John 4:1; Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

And, is this not the same to which James speaks ?

James 2:14-26;
14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead als
o.

As also John ~
1 John 2:4; He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

1 John 2:22; Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

1 John 4:20; If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen
?

As also Jesus Christ of Nazareth ~
Luke 6:46; And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

John 15:14; Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you
.

    2nd./  Obedience is required !

Matthew 3:8; Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:

Acts 26:20; But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.

Romans 2:13; (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

Romans 6:16;  Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

Acts 5:32; And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

Hebrews 5:9; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

Hebrews 10:36; For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

Hebrews 12:9-11;
9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.

James 1:25; But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

1 John 3:22; And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

As it is written ~ as The Lord hath also said......

Matthew 4:4; But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Luke 4:4; And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

    3rd./   prove, do, live by, obey ! Are all required ! As is also, growth !
                 I./   Understanding, however, that Salvation is a process........ from the simplest form of doctrine all the way up to the greatest expressions of the faith ! What we do is.........we.....

add to~ 2 Peter 1:4-11;
ask
     believe
                continue
                             desire ~  1 Peter 2:2; As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

                                           go
                                           grow ~ 1 Peter 2:2; As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
                                                hold fast
                                                              live
                                                                    love

                                                                           make disciples
                                                                           mind
                                                                                                  negate evil
                                                                                                                   obey
                                                                                                                           perfect
                                                                                                                           prove
                                                                                                                           put off
                                                                                                                           put on
                                                                                                                                      read
                                                                                                                                      rest
                                                                                                                                            sin not
                                                                                                                                            study
                                                                                                                                            stir up
                                                                                                                                            be steadfast
teach
think ~  Philippians 4:8; Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
1 Timothy 4:15; Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.
        understand ~ Ephesians 5:17; Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
                         vaunt not
                                       walk (Philippians 3:16; ...whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.)
                                       walk worthy ~ Eph.4:1;Col.1:10;1 Thess.2:12;
                                       work out ~ Philippians 2:12; Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
                                                     examine
                                                                  all these many things, daily ! continue in them ! for the rest of your lives ! All the verbs in the Bible are "actions" meant to be "acted upon" "lived by" "carried out" in our persons and lives !

2 Peter 1:8; For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

    4th./   Salvation (not being based upon works) however, "rewards" are based upon "works" !
